Text: “Cursed be he that lieth with his sister, the daughter of his father, or the daughter of his mother. And all the people shall say, Amen” - Deuteronomy 27:22.
Comment: The pronouncement of a curse or woe in the leading text immediately instructs the mind of all candid believers of the foreboding dangers in the sin of incest. The Wikipedianotes that the word INCEST means “sexual activity between family members or close relatives”. At the beginning, there was no law against marriage of close relations, like Abraham marrying Sarah, his half sister. (Genesis 11:29; 20:12). But in the process of time, the Almighty God outlawed the practice in the days of Moses. - Leviticus 18:9. See also Deuteronomy 20:17.
Tamar, daughter of King David knew that the Almighty Father abhors sexual contacts by blood relations; on that account alone, she resisted Amnon, her half brother's animal urge to lie with her. Absalom, the uterine brother of Tamar killed the depraved Amnon, two years later. (See Romans 6:23) True Christian believers are admonished to desist from incestuous relationships as they become an ill wind that blows nobody any good. It leads to vexation of spirit and a dent on one's image. Embrace the truth of God's word, seek for godly partners and commune with the LORD over one's choices for direction of His Holy Spirit and it “shall be health to thy navel, and marrow to thy bones” – Proverbs 3:6-8; etc.
