Text:“The liberal soul shall be made fat, and he that watereth shall be watered also himself” – Proverbs 11:25.
A liberal soul is the person who is generous, who freely gives his money, time and other assets for good causes. Liberality is a natural endowment which shapes the future of the beneficiary for good, by the grace of God. God Almighty requires His people to be open-handed in helping any one in need. Through Moses His servant, God commanded His people to give liberally to the poor promising that He would bless them abundantly for so doing. (Deuteronomy 15:7,8,10,14) Acts of liberality are investments with far reaching prospects. King Solomon stated “He that hath pity upon the poor lendeth unto the LORD: and that which he hath given will He pay him again” – Proverbs 19:17.
When Tabitha (also called Dorcas) died, the reason for which the disciples of Christ called upon St. Peter to raise her up from death, was that “this woman was full of good works and alms deeds which she did”, “…and all the widows stood by him (Peter) weeping and shewing the coats and garments which Docas made, while she was with them.” (Acts 9:36-40) St. Peter came and she was raised to life. In the time of St. Paul he commended the disciples who actively supported him in his work, stating that their “names are in the book of life.” (Philippians 4:3) Certainly, liberality in the Lord yields bountiful rewards. St. Paul wrote “But this I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly, and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully.” – 2 Corinthians 9:6.
