During the Feast of Tabernacles of 2007, precisely on Thursday, December 13, 2007, the Executive Board of the GKS, directed Brother Felix Adedokun, then a member of the Board, to launch the first Daily Devotional Guide of the Church, entitled “God’s Word, a Lamp to my feet”. So enthusiastic was the response of members that they donated no less than N300,000 on the spot to support the publication. In the foreword to the first issue, we stated inter-alia, “In the Christian context, devotional literatures are meant to enhance spirituality by focusing the mind of the individual on the word of God, thereby strengthening one’s trust in the promises of God Almighty. In this age of distress and perplexity, when men’s hearts are “failing them for fear and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth”, (Luke 21:26) such spiritual armour is an invaluable asset. It is for this reason that there has been a persistent yearning, even a clamour, among members and non-members alike for this booklet, which we have entitled, God’s Word – A Lamp to My Feet.”
The groundswell of support for the Daily Guide, we are glad to say, has continued to rise even as the publication has been growing in quality and variety of content by the grace of God. However, the major challenge has been the cost of production which has far outstripped the selling price. The Lord’s Ministry has had to come in to defray part of the production cost in order to keep the selling price at the present level by God’s grace.
The emphasis on the spiritual benefits of this devotional and the fact that it has continued to serve as a source of spiritual nourishment to members and even non-members have been the impetus that have sustained the production by the grace of God. We thank our readers for the suggestions, observations and words of encouragement over the years and promise to continue to take their views into account in our continuing drive for excellence. We pray God to continue to help us to produce materials for the spiritual well-being of our readers on a daily basis and for our blessings by the grace of God.
Some of the themes in this edition are repeats of old ones as they provide solid counter-narratives to the godless tendencies that are the sign of the times. The themes would certainly help in the spiritual growth of the reader by the grace of God. They “THE ACCEPTABLE YEAR OF THE LORD”; “MAINTAINING GOOD WORKS”; “THE FOUNDATION OF GOD STANDETH SURE”; “CULTIVATING CHRIST-LIKE VIRTUES”; “HONESTY – A NOBLE CHRISTIAN VIRTUE”; “MARRIAGE”; “BE WISE AS SERPENTS, HARMLESS AS DOVES”; “CHRIST’S MESSAGE TO THE SEVEN CHURCHES”.
We are highly indebted to the members of staff of GKS Press as well as those who helped in proof-reading the work by God's grace. May God continue to use His words to wash us so that we would be at peace with Him always by His grace through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.
The Lord's Ministry,
