“Wherefore do ye spend money for that which is not bread? and your labour for that which satisfieth not? hearken diligently unto me, and eat ye that which is good, and let your soul delight itself in fatness.” - Isaiah 55:2
Today many people spend enormous amounts of time, money and energy fasting and praying in their quest for God's favour. All these exertions amount to nothing in as much as such ones commit wicked practices such as ritual killings, political assassinations, human trafficking, cheating and other actions that hurt their fellow beings.
For not keeping to the principle of doing to others as they would have them do to them, the unbelieving Jews turned the worship of God into an empty ritual or formality. They were thus chastised by our Heavenly Father, as it is written. “…Wherefore have we fasted, say they, and thou seest not? wherefore have we afflicted our soul, and thou takest no knowledge? Behold, in the day of your fast ye find pleasure, and exact all your labours. ..Is not this the fast that I have chosen? toloose the bands of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, and to let the oppressed go free, and that ye break every yoke? … “(Isaiah 58:2-7) Those who have come to Christ must do his will to be disciples indeed. “But if, while we seek to be justified by Christ, we ourselves also are found sinners, is therefore Christ the minister of sin? God forbid. For if I build again the things which I destroyed, I make myself a transgressor.” - Galatians 2:17, 18.
