TEXT : “A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself: but the simple pass on, and are punished.” - Proverbs 22:3.

COMMENT:A prudent man in this context means one who is discreet and has the understanding of the will of God. He knows that the devil exercises a malign or evil influence over the peoples of the earth and therefore he is always alert to the possible pitfalls or stumbling blocks and arrows which the devil directs at those on the Lord’s side. Apostle Paul stated: “Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.” (2 Corinthians 2:11) During his days on earth our Lord Jesus Christ told his disciples that they should depart from a certain place because he saw that the devil was coming. (John 14:30).

This is no doubt an example to the people of God to avoid danger as much as possible. It will be unwise for a believer to deliberately walk into a war zone, a riot scene, a fire, a robbery incident merely on the basis of his belief that he is assured of God’s deliverance. God wants us to exercise our senses by keeping a safe distance from temptations and danger which he has already made known to us would abound in this age.  Scripture says: “A wise man feareth, and departeth from evil: but the fool rageth, and is confident.” – Proverbs 14:16.
