TEXT : Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.” - Matthew 10:16.
COMMENT: The account of St. Matthew records this important admonition of our Lord Jesus Christ to his disciples on how they should conduct themselves in this sin-ridden world. This admonition of our Lord Jesus Christ should be taken to heart by all Christians as it would save them from a lot of trouble. Christians should know that their being true disciples attracts hostility from those who are inclined to ungodliness. (Proverbs 29:27). We should therefore be careful how, where and when we talk and act. Our Lord Jesus Christ warned his disciples that time will come when those who kill them will even think they are doing service to God. - John 16:2.
Despite this warning by our Lord Jesus Christ, many professed Christians have been duped, cheated and oppressed due to the fact that they trusted too much, believed what they were told without finding out properly or had taken no precautionary measures to avert certain occurrences. Jesus Christ warned: “Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you.” (Matthew 7:6). What it all boils down to is that kindness should, as much as possible, be done with carefulness and discrimination, to those who deserve it. We should be alert to the antics of those who have merely come to take advantage of our simplicity or our liberty in the Lord - Galatians 2:4.
