: “Furthermore then we beseech you, brethren, and exhort you by the Lord Jesus, that as ye have received of us how ye ought to walk and to please God, so ye would abound more and more. That no man go beyond and defraud his brother in any matter: because that the Lord is the avenger of all such, as we also have forewarned you and testified.”-1 Thessalonians 4:1,6.
COMMENT: People resort to dishonesty due to lack of faith in God. Dishonesty is the by-product of greed, avarice, discontent and all vices associated with the get-rich-quick syndrome. The Bible says that “by the fear of the Lord men depart from evil”. (Proverbs 16:6) But contrary to the admonitions in the Bible, many people throw all caution to the winds and become unduly excited when it comes to money matters. Their eyes bulge out with greed and, like Esau, they are ready to sell their birthright for a plate of pottage. They say “there is no Christianity in business”. Dishonesty in money matters has brought bitterness and discord among members of the same family, close friends, and even members of the Church. It must be said that the service of God involves all that we do in life. Said St. Paul, “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.” - Romans 12:1, 2.
