TEXT : Seest thou a man diligent in his business? he shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before mean men. - Proverbs 22:29
COMMENT: An important quality that makes for honesty is diligence. When we work hard and use our time well, God will bless our labours and provide for our needs. It is said that “God sends every bird its food but He does not throw it into the nest”. The oft-told parable of the ant which prepares its food in summer is particularly poignant and instructive. (Proverbs 6:6-11) People of God should not be lazy or while away precious time because time and tide waits for nobody. St. Paul showed example to the Christians at Thessalonica to teach them that “if any would not work, neither should he eat”. (2 Thessalonians 3:7-10) It is therefore wrong for people to seek to attain material success by taking to homosexuality, prostitution, child trafficking, and to join secret societies (where they are required to do strange things and keep laws that are contrary to nature).
No one can deny the fact that those who keep on working hard in their professions develop expertise in it and are therefore sought after by people in low and high quarters. True worshippers shall in the end “see the King in his beauty” (that is they shall be in God’s Kingdom fully established); “they shall behold the land that is very far off ” by God’s grace. - Isaiah 33:17.
