TEXT : Having your conversation honest among the Gentiles: that, whereas they speak against you as evildoers, they may by your good works, which they shall behold, glorify God in the day of visitation. - 1 Peter 2:12.
COMMENT: It is not unusual for those who are dedicated in God’s Service to be evil spoken of. This is at the instance of satan the devil who sees such ones as his enemies, in that their actions and words are helping to break down his own organisation. Having boasted that no one will remain faithful to God on earth the devil moves his gang to use hard and bitter words to malign the people of God so as to make them ashamed of doing righteousness and to weaken their resolve in their race for salvation. However our Lord Jesus Christ has exhorted his disciples not to be dismayed by the malicious words of the wicked. (John 15:19,20) Christians should in the face of such opposition continue to hold their ground while not engaging in mudslinging with those who have been misled by the devil. Those who are honest among their opposers will, in course of time, confess that the Christian among them is a disciple indeed and may even repent to follow Christ. Those who do not change will be judged by God. Jude the Apostle stated that Jesus Christ will during his second presence: “... execute judgment upon all, and to convince all that are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have ungodly committed, and of all their hard speeches which ungodly sinners have spoken against him.” - Jude 15
