“A wholesome tongue is a tree of life: but perverseness therein is a breach in the spirit.” - Proverbs 15:4.
Communication refers to everything that communicates a message and meaning. The means may be verbal, non verbal, written or non-written symbols. These may even be conveyed not only in language but also in dress, in banners, signs and in other forms. Language barriers within cultural patterns may restrict communication and contact between spouses. Communication is vital to life. Animals communicate in very remarkable ways but it is only man that communicates through a language.
Between husband and wife the best medium for communication is verbal i.e. using words – and by this we mean words that do not offend. Words build, just as they can also destroy. Couples should use verbal exchanges positively. (Proverbs 18:21; 15:1) Couples should not resort to communication through writing to each other when both of them are living together in the house. Apostle John said it is better to speak face to face than with paper and ink. (2 John 2; 3 John 13,14) Sometimes however, writing has its place in communication. For example loved ones can write a kind message or send gifts to express their affection for each other. This is good.
