Text:

“Woe be unto the pastors that destroy and scatter the sheep of my pasture! saith the LORD. Therefore thus saith the LORD God of Israel against the pastors that feed my people; Ye have scattered my flock, and driven them away, and have not visited them: behold, I will visit upon you the evil of your doings, saith the LORD.” - Jeremiah 23:1-2

Comment:

Wicked people also are found among those who profess to be Church leaders.  Like the devil, they quote those portions of the Bible that will enable them deceive people and fleece money from them. Instead of warning their flock against sin, they deceive them with promises of quick riches, fruit of the womb, and sundry miracles.  Concerning them God declared: “Your iniquities have turned away these things, and your sins have withholden good things from you. For among my people are found wicked men: they lay wait, as he that setteth snares; they set a trap, they catch men. As a cage is full of birds, so are their houses full of deceit: therefore they are become great, and waxen rich. They are waxen fat, they shine: yea, they overpass the deeds of the wicked: they judge not the cause, the cause of the fatherless, yet they prosper; and the right of the needy do they not judge. Shall I not visit for these things? saith the LORD: shall not my soul be avenged on such a nation as this?” (Jeremiah 5:25-29) The text continues with a lamentation: “A wonderful and horrible thing is committed in the land; The prophets prophesy falsely, and the priests bear rule by their means; and my people love to have it so: and what will ye do in the end thereof?”   (Jeremiah 5:30, 31) God will certainly punish all false religious leaders who deceive the people and make merchandise of them.
