“Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter! Woe unto them that are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight!” - Isaiah 5:20-21
In order to easily exploit the people some political leaders practise the policy of dividing the people. A politician was once quoted to have defined democracy “as the art of governing people by deceiving them”. Such politicians emphasize perceived differences among the people such as ethnicity, religion, social status, etc. While they turn the people against one another and appear on the surface to be fighting their people's causes, these leaders cooperate with each other in pillaging the treasury and exploiting the resources of their country. Their manipulations cause wars and riots and many people die and properties are destroyed. At the end of the day they present themselves as peace advocates for crises which they caused in the first place in order to prolong their hold on power!
Some leaders deliberately make policies that will keep the people poor so that they will continually depend on them for handouts and so that they will not be in a position to oppose them. People in such a state should continue to look to God who will in due time disappoint “the devices of the crafty, so that their hands cannot perform their enterprise”. – Job 5:12,13.
