“And there came in two men, children of Belial, and sat before him: and the men of Belial witnessed against him, even against Naboth, in the presence of the people, saying, Naboth did blaspheme God and the king. Then they carried him forth out of the city, and stoned him with stones, that he died.” - 1Kings 21:13.
It is on record that Jezebel got the elders of the land of Israel to hire false witnesses that they saw and heard Naboth blaspheme God and the king. That was how Naboth was killed after a false charge of blasphemy was made against him by two so-called witnesses, sons of Belial. (1 Kings 21:7-16) As could be seen, carnally-minded people, even among those who claim to be worshippers of God, do not care about morality or the laws of God when their interests are at stake. It is even more dangerous when leaders are involved because they would always find people who will do their dirty jobs because of one benefit or the other. During the Feast of Tabernacles, the Pharisees sent officers to arrest Jesus Christ. It was Nicodemus whom God used to ask them,“Doth our law judge any man, before it hear him, and know what he doeth?” (John 7:30-32. 50-53)
Punishing those keeping the faith is certainly the devil's device against the people of God. Christians must resist and oppose people of such disposition in and outside the congregation. St. Paul stated: “And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them. For it is a shame even to speak of those things which are done of them in secret.” - Ephesians 5:11, 12.
