“And Jesus answering said, Were there not ten cleansed? but where are the nine? There are not found that returned to give glory to God, save this stranger. And he said unto him, Arise, go thy way: thy faith hath made thee whole.” - Luke 17:17-19.
As the Lord was passing through the border towns between Samaria and Galilee, ten lepers started calling him from afar off, praying him to have mercy on them. Christ on seeing them, directed them to show themselves to the priests. This was according to the law which says that the Priests would be the one to certify whether ones has leprosy or not. (Leviticus 13:2; 14:2). Jesus Christ by this directive, showed his regard for the law of God as stated in the law of Moses. But as they were going, they were healed. Unfortunately out of the lot, only one of them came back rejoicing, to show appreciation to God. (Luke 17:15-16). It should be noted that, the man who came to give thanks was not a Jew but a Samaritan - a people seen by the Jews as being of inferior status. But as the text for today shows, he was the one who showed appreciation for the favour shown to him. We too, who have been called to see the light should know that we are enjoying unmerited favour and should therefore be profound in appreciation of the goodness of God by way of faithful service. – 1 Thessalonians 5:18.
