Text:“Hide not thy face far from me; put not thy servant away in anger: thou hast been my help; leave me not, neither forsake me, O God of my salvation. When my father and my mother forsake me, then the LORD will take me up.” - Psalm 27:9,10.
Across the world, many people are depressed, and in pain and want to be happy. Such ones should not feel God had forsaken them or does not care about their affliction and oppression (Psalm 13:1; 44:24) What they should do is to be prayerful. David himself prayed, “hide not thy face from thy servant; for I am in trouble: hear me speedily”. (Psalms 69:17) Unfortunately, however, when some feel there is no way of getting relief from their problems, they become hopeless and take to drugs or even commit suicide. It is the devil who is set on a suicide course. No right-thinking person should join him - for there is no condition God cannot reverse. - Job 1:21; Jeremiah 32:27, 17.
Resorting to drugs as a way of escape from their problems creates more problems than it solves, in that instead of realizing the happiness they crave for, drug addicts suffer from various problems, from sleeplessness to loss of body weight. According to the Encyclopedia Britannica, (2012) “Apart from their addiction liability, respiratory depression leading to respiratory failure and death is the chief hazard of these drugs.” We should look to God Almighty for deliverance and salvation. “For he shall deliver the needy when he crieth; the poor also, and him that hath no helper.” “This poor man cried, and the LORD heard him, and saved him out of all his troubles.” - Psalm 72:12; 34:6.
