“Afterward Jesus findeth him in the temple, and said unto him, Behold, thou art made whole: sin no more, lest a worse thing come unto thee.” - John 5:14.

One of the dismal evils which sin had made us liable to is sickness. By healing those who had faith in him, our Redeemer showed clearly that it is the devil who has been oppressing people with various disease conditions and that there was no condition He could not cure permanently.

There was a day during the earthly ministry of our Lord Jesus Christ, that he healed a woman who had a spirit of infirmity eighteen years. When the ruler of the synagogue joined issues with him for effecting the cure on a Sabbath day, the Lord gave him a text-book answer, asking the religious leaders why, if they had such regard for the Sabbath they still took their animals for watering on a Sabbath day, “And ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan hath bound, lo, these eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the sabbath day?” (Luke 13:10-17) Apart from the fact that ill-health afflicts people because of imperfection, many become sick because of ungodly lifestyles. Generally those who are sick should examine themselves and seek the face of God by way of prayer. “The LORD hear thee in the day of trouble; the name of the God of Jacob defend thee; Send thee help from the sanctuary, and strengthen thee out of Zion … Grant thee according to thine own heart, and fulfil all thy counsel.” - Psalm 20:1-4.
