Text: :“And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight.” - 1 John 3:22.
Comment: The effect of keeping the commandments of God and thereby having clean hands and heart in God's service is highlighted in the text for today. It is only when we work very hard to please God by putting to good use the truth which we preach and hear, constantly examining and re-examining ourselves to ensure we meet the Lord's standard at all times, that our prayers will be answered by God. God will not hear the prayers of those whose hands and hearts are steeped in sin. (Psalm 66:18) The blind man stated, “Now we know that God heareth not sinners: but if any man be a worshipper of God, and doeth his will, him he heareth.” (John 9:31) Solomon the prophet asserted, “He that turneth away his ear from hearing the law, even his prayer shall be abomination.” (Proverbs 28:9) God Almighty has however graciously made provision for anyone who errs to be judged by his conscience so as to retrace his steps and be reconciled with His Maker. Those who fail to change, their sins will eventually find them out, when they run into crisis and humiliation. - 1 John 3:20,21; Numbers 32:23.
To get the full benefits of our prayers to God and indeed of our services we must, like Apostle Paul, “...have always a conscience void of offence toward God, and toward men.” - Acts 24:16.
