Text: :How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.” - Isaiah 14:12-14.
Comment: God Almighty abhors those who are proud. A ready example of a person brought down from the mountain top to the valley was Lucifer. Carried away by the privileges given to him, he coveted the honours that were the exclusive preserve of the Almighty. He was full of wisdom, and perfect in beauty and every precious stone was his covering and he “walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire” (mighty spirit beings). (Ezekiel 28:12-15) Not satisfied with the great privileges he already had, he wanted to be above all creation, to be worshipped and to direct the universe from the capital of Jehovah's universal organization, in the sides of the north, which is Mount Zion. (Psalm 48:2) As a result of his pride he was driven down to the earth and given such names as serpent, satan, dragon and devil. But in spite of the fact that he was Jehovah's first creation our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ submitted himself to the father, saying, “my Father is greater than I”. (John 14:28; 5:30) God Almighty therefore glorified him saying, “Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: the sceptre of thy kingdom is a right sceptre. Thou lovest righteousness, and hatest wickedness: therefore God, thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows.” (Psalm 45:6, 7) As St. Paul stated, those who patiently continue in well doing would get glory and honour and … eternal life by His grace. - Romans 2:7.
