Text: :“Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.” - Matthew 11:29.
Comment: This invitation by our Lord Jesus Christ is to all people of goodwill who have realised that human efforts are of no avail as far as freedom from the afflictions facing mankind are concerned. He came to this earth not only to pay the ransom for man's life but also to teach us by precept and example how to gain the promises of God not only in this life but also in the world to come.
Christ demonstrated meekness. He came “not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many”. (Matthew 20:28) He taught us to accept the fact that we are ignorant sinners in urgent need of help. (John 9:39-41) Then we should learn the truth from him and take the practice of it as our first priority. (John 6:63; Matthew 6:33) We should in love serve one another, washing one another's feet. (John 13:1-15) He showed that love also involves correcting a neighbor for his misdeeds or wrongs done to us so that we would not bear grudges but help one another to remain in the narrow path. (Luke 17:3,4; Matthew 18:15-20) He declared, “For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you. Verily, verily, I say unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord; neither he that is sent greater than he that sent him. If ye know these things, happy are ye if ye do them.” - John 13:15-17.
