Text:: Behold, this was the iniquity of thy sister Sodom, pride, fulness of bread, and abundance of idleness was in her and in her daughters, neither did she strengthen the hand of the poor and needy.” – Ezekiel 16:49.

Comment: That an entire city was shamelessly drowned in sin, was an affront to the King of heaven, “all whose works are truth, and his ways judgment: and those that walk in pride he is able to abase.” (Daniel 4:37) The Bible says, “Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people.” (Proverbs 14:34) The Almighty God speaking through His prophet Isaiah upbraided the children of Israel for their backslidings thus: “The shew of their countenance doth witness against them; and they declare their sin as Sodom, they hide it not. Woe unto their soul! for they have rewarded evil unto themselves.” (Isaiah 3:9) Speaking through Jeremiah, He likened the heinous commitments of the religious leaders in time of old to the sister – cities of sin who “commit adultery, and walk in lies: they strengthen also the hands of evildoers, that none doth return from his wickedness: they are all of them unto me as Sodom, and the inhabitants thereof as Gomorrah.” (Jeremiah 23:14) It is regrettable that this age of the end is nothing different from Sodom and Gomorrah, if not worse. As the world sinks deeper and deeper in unrighteousness, so is the Almighty Father “angry with the wicked everyday”. - Psalm 7:11.

We should endeavor to practice God's righteousness even the more as we see the day approaching for “it may be ye shall be hid in the day of the LORD'S anger”. - Zephaniah 2:3.
