Text:: “This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, Having a form of godliness, but denying the power therefore: from such turn away.” - 2 Timothy 3:1, 2, 5.
Comment: Writing on the traits people will exhibit to an unprecedented degree in the last days, St. Paul in his letter to Timothy in 2 Timothy 3:1-5 pointed out that people will give themselves to carnality than to spiritual things, that they would be preoccupied with gratifying their own lusts than doing their duty to their Creator and thereby edify their fellow human beings. Because many people will neither fear God or regard man, they would feel at liberty to say and do what they like. (Psalm 12:4) The inspired record also states that in this age, “evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.” (2 Timothy 3:13) But those to be so seduced and remain in seduction are those who do not know God, for it has been said that “a foolish head and a filthy heart make persons, especially women, an easy prey to seducers”. This is the time for all people of goodwill to turn to God lest the “Judge of all the earth” visits them with complete destruction as He did to the people of Sodom and Gomorrah. “Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light. See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, Redeeming the time, because the days are evil. Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is.” - Ephesians 5:14-17.
