Text:: “And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it. If ye love me, keep my commandments.” - John 14:13-15.
Comment: True discipleship is synonymous with practical Christianity because the blessings of God shall redound on those who not only hear and read but “keep those things which are written therein”. - Revelation 1:3; Luke 11:28.
The Christian who is determined to practice God's righteousness will succeed by the grace of God. (1 John 5: 3) Our Saviour Jesus Christ describes the “burden” and “yoke” of obeying his commandments as “light” and “easy” by the grace of God. To those who are obedient he promised rest in God's Kingdom fully established. - Matthew 11: 28-30; 1 John 2: 25.
We should not make the mistake of Lot's wife, by hardening our hearts to the word of God. The knowledge of the gospel message teaches us to “Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God. But exhort one another daily, while it is called To day; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.” (Hebrews 3:12, 13) Moreover, St. Paul stated, “For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world…” He added that we should look to Christ, “Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.” - Titus 2:11-14.
